Mubarakpur Azamgarh

A modest town in Azamgarh District of Uttar Pradesh, Mubarakpur is located 13 km north-east of Azamgarh. As per census records, it has a population of 160,000.

Earlier known as Qasimabad, Mubarakpur got its present name from Hazrat Raja Syed Mubarak, a distinguished scholar and a pious saint of the chistia order. The people here comply with Islamic thoughts and practice, and most of them follow Imam Ahmad Raza's school of thoughts.

The Banarasi Sarees of Mubarakpur is famous all over the world. It forms the staple industry in the district affording maximum employment. Places of interests include Raja Mubarak Shah Mosque, noted for its area and grandeur, the temple of Thakurji and the Minaret(Minar) of Jama Masjid Nagar Palika.

Jiyanpur to the north-east and Saarai Rani to the south-west are among the surrounding places. Varanasi Airport, 82 km away, is the nearest airbase. The nearest railhead is Azamgarh Railway Station.
